چکیده

This paper is a continuation of earlier work [6] in which we presented an automatic domain decomposition method for the solution of gas dynamics problems which require a localized resolution of the kinetic scale. The basic idea is to couple the macroscopic hydrodynamics model and the microscopic kinetic model through a buffer zone in which both equations are solved. Discontinuities or sharp gradients of the solution are responsible for locally strong departures to local equilibrium which require the resolution of the kinetic model. The buffer zone is drawn around the kinetic region by introducing a cut-off function, which takes values between zero and one and which is identically zero in the fluid zone and one in the kinetic zone. In the present paper, we specifically consider the possibilty of moving the kinetic region or creating new kinetic regions, by evolving the cut-off function with respect to time. We present algorithms which perform this task by taking into account indicators which characterize the nonequilibrium state of the gas. The method is shown to be highly flexible as it relies on the time evolution of the buffer cut-off function rather than on the geometric definition of a moving interface which requires remeshing, by contrast to many previous methods. Numerical examples are presented which validate the method and demonstrate its performances.

Coupling Nonlinear Element Free Galerkin and Linear Galerkin Finite Volume Solver for 2D Modeling of Local Plasticity in Structural Material

This paper introduces a computational strategy to collaboratively develop the Galerkin Finite Volume Method (GFVM) as one of the most straightforward and efficient explicit numerical methods to solve structural problems encountering material nonlinearity in a small limited area, while the remainder of the domain represents a linear elastic behavior. In this regard, the Element Free Galerkin met...

Development of a phase change model for volume-of-fluid method in OpenFOAM

In this present study, volume of fluid method in OpenFOAM open source CFD package will be extended to consider phase change phenomena with modified model due to condensation and boiling processes. This model is suitable for the case in which both unsaturated phase and saturated phase are present and for beginning boiling and condensation process needn't initial interface. Both phases (liquid-va...

Dynamic and Deformation of a liquid Droplet in a Convective Two-Dimensional Laminar Flow

The objective of this research is to develop an accurate numerical method to be used in showing the deformation of a liquid fuel droplet in a convective field. To simultaneously solve the internal liquid droplet flow field as well as the external gas phase flow field, a nonstaggered rectangular grid system without any coordinate transformation is used. Transition from the gas field to the liqui...

On Some Kinetic-Fluid Coupling Strategies

We will present some recent results about the development of numerical methods which are able to efficiently capture the multiscale aspects of some problems described by kinetic equations. In particular we will focus on fluid dynamics problems which present localized regions of departure from thermodynamical equilibrium. The basic idea, on which the methods rely, is to couple macroscopic hydrod...
